Leaf wetness forecast for vineyards and orchards
Field-level canopy wetness estimate: dew from leaf temperature, rain on the canopy, drying from wind and daytime radiation. 30-day free trial.
No card required · no automatic chargesInfection depends on the wet hours
Most fungal pathogens infect when the leaf surface stays wet for hours and the temperature is in the range favourable to the pathogen. A shower alone is not enough; early-morning dew, however, can bring a long wet period even without rain, especially on calm, clear nights.
Meteon estimates leaf temperature from the energy balance, deposits dew when the leaf cools below the dew point, keeps rain on the canopy, and drives drying by the vapour pressure deficit, wind converted to canopy height and daytime radiation. In a vineyard the better ventilation of the rows gives faster drying than a denser orchard in the same weather.
What you see on the field
On the field page you see right away whether the canopy is wet now and how long it stays wet, and the next 48 hours are shown hour by hour: dew and rain separately. The action is clear: this is no reason to water; spray only on a dry canopy.
In vineyards the downy mildew model (10-10-10) runs independently as well if grapevine is set for the field. Leaf wetness is the physical state; the disease model is the pathogen's threshold. Together they give the decision. The module is part of the crop protection of the Agronomy plan , and is available at no extra cost during the 30-day trial.

Is this the same as a leaf wetness sensor?
No. The system computes a leaf-surface water balance from the field's forecast temperature, dew point, wind, precipitation and daytime radiation. The output is an indicative estimate, not an on-site sensor measurement.
Why does this matter in vineyards?
Primary downy mildew infection needs rain and prolonged leaf wetness (the classic 10-10-10 rule). Early-morning dew can also aid secondary spread. And spray does not adhere well to a wet canopy, so the model tells you when the leaves dry.
How is this different from the 90% humidity threshold?
Relative humidity at 2 metres is not the leaf surface. At night the leaf can cool below the dew point by radiation; by day wind and sun dry it quickly. The model follows this water balance and also takes into account the better ventilation of vineyard rows.
